Witchblade
From 2001 to2002, Witchblade was an American television series that aired on TNT. The show is based on the Witchblade comic book franchise, and it premiered in August2000, following a pilot film. Ralph Hemecker, Marc Silvestri, and J.D. Zeik contributed to some of the episodes. Sara Pezzini was played by Yancy Butler, Kenneth Irons was played by Anthony Cistaro, Jake McCartey was played by David Chokachi, Ian Nottingham was played by Eric Etebari, Danny Woo was played by Will Yun Lee, Tommy Gallo was played by Conrad Dunn, Joe Siri was played by Kenneth Welsh, and Gabriel Bowman was played by John Hensley, among others. The show was canceled in September2002, despite critical acclaim and widespread popularity; it was speculated that Butler's admission to rehab for alcoholism was a factor in the cancellation. The 24-episode series aired on TNT for two seasons. The show premiered on June12,2001, and ended on August26, 2002. Witchblade placed seventh in the Top 10 Basic Cable Dramas for2002, despite its demise. According to Top Cow editor Matt Hawkins, the Witchblade TV series was canceled because the lead actress, Yancy Butler, was an alcoholic who went to rehab–it was and still is the highest-rated TV show ever canceled.
