A Different World

A Different World is a six-season American sitcom that originally aired on NBC. It is a spin-off of The Cosby Show and was originally centered on Denise Huxtable and the life of students at Hillman College, a fictional but historically black college in Virginia. After Bonet's departure in the first season, the remaining seasons of the show mostly centered on Southern belle Whitley Gilbert and math genius Dwayne Wayne. The show usually portrayed members of the most prominent historically black fraternities and sororities. Although it was a spin-off of The Cosby Show, A Different World often addressed topics that The Cosby Show writers ignored. One of the first American network television episodes to address the HIV/AIDS epidemic was shown in 1990.
