Writer Alex Sheldon (Luke Wilson) must finish his book within a month. He won't receive money if he does not . And, if this comes to pass Mafia type s to whom money is owed by him can come looking for him. In order to expedite matters, Alex hi res typist Emma Dinsmore (Kate Hudson) and begins dictating his book. The book is all about a doomed love affair between a character very similar to Alex and a character called Polina Delacroix (Sophie Marceau). But, as Alex drops for Emma, his work takes a different twist.
