When a famous Polish journalist reveals his full political talent and expertise on a television show including questions and answers on an international conference by a panel of journalists, he presents a challenge for the powers-that-be. When he isn't around, his foes revoke his privileges. The shock of being "unwanted" is mirrored by a deeper disappointment in his personal life: his wife is having an affair with a jealous young rival and wants a divorce after 15 years of marriage and two daughters. As he tries to solve these issues on his own, she offers no explanations. He makes all of the bad decisions. After learning that his seminar has been canceled, he starts drinking heavily with students who are excited to attend. The formerly sophisticated and dominating journalist has been reduced to quiet.
