The Birth of a Nation

The two families, abolitionist Northerners the Stonemans and Southern landowners the Camerons, intertwine in director D.W. Griffith's controversial Civil War epic. Nurse Elsie Stoneman petitions because of his pardon when Confederate colonel Ben Cameron is captured in battle. In Reconstruction-era South Carolina, Cameron founds the Ku Klux Klan, combating the congressman dad Silas Lynch, and his Africanamerican protégé of Elsie.
